According to Bond

1 address, 2 places. It’s no magic trick, rather, it’s tonight’s mission. And it begins away from Barcelona’s lively streets in the very famous, very luxurious, but very discreet Dry Martini Bar, and finishes under the radar, completely undetected, in its mysterious storeroom of (delicious) secrets … But for that revelation, you’ll have to read on.

Part 1: The Drink

The Dry Martini is a classic cocktail bar, enveloped by leather, brass, dark woods, and the sophisticated air of an Englishman. Bartenders in white coats and the stylish crowd of Barcelonans murmuring in the plush banquettes set the tone, while the bar’s leader, maestro-mixologist Javier de las Muela - who made his claim to fame by perfecting the ratio of vermouth to gin (or vodka) - sets the tempo with his long, long menu. So, before we go any further, it’ll be a classic dry martini (obviously), or maybe the house drink (a huge gin and tonic), but even perhaps one of Javier’s innovative smoky cocktails (or all, in moderation of course) to enjoy an excellent aperitif before dinner is served undercover in a room hidden in the back ...

Part 2: The Meal

Once upon a time in Barcelona, it took a top-secret passcode to be granted access (could it have been 007 …?). Today, you will be led to a back door through the open kitchen that leads to a very private and discreet a dining room, the Speakeasy Restaurant, located near Turo Park, romantically lit with the underground glamour of the Roaring Twenties of NYC. Walls are lined with bottles and black and white photos, it has its own well-stocked bar, and soft jazz music plays in the background, like a scene out of a certain film …

But here it’s actually the diverse and mouth-watering menu that steals the spotlight. Everything is so exceptional, it’s hard to choose between the foie gras, ceviche or lobster to start, or the roasted baby lamb with Japanese mushrooms or the rice dish with duck and truffle butter to continue. But the grand finale is sure, a delicious red fruit infused sorbet to share. We may have lost ourselves in a world of secrecy, but we are still in Spain!

It’s true, we’ve followed the footsteps of Bond … James Bond (how could we resist). But tonight, it’s you and your beautiful date, mission accomplished in the heart of the city.
