Mirrors have the final word

Our strolls into the heart of the city are always full of surprises, especially in Barcelona. We were delighted to find this jewel the other day while heading towards the Passeig de Gracia. Boca Chica is a true gem of a bar, not hidden in the basement or in a dark alley, but perched on the crown of its big brother, the Boca Grande restaurant.

Boca Chica is the bar of the moment (albeit, a long moment), a trendy place where Barcelona’s hip and trendy crowd heads to eagerly taste the latest creations of famed bartender Sergio Padilla. Inside, the décor is brilliant, designed by interior designer Lázaro Rosa Violán, a Barcelona-local whose coveted mark exists only in select establishments around the world. Here, he has embellished each surface in a mixture of extravagant textures and themes: a glamorous glass wall behind the bar, atypical lamps overhead, a palette of dark woods, elephant tusks and animal skulls, Persian carpets and cowhide stools. A journey to distant lands, without ever leaving the bar’s cozy atmosphere and the comfort of its low-set leather sofas. You might not even notice the staff shuffling about in the dim lighting, with their covert earpieces, discreetly replacing your glass … After all, the list of Padilla’s signature cocktails is long, and you plan to try them all, right?

However, the surprises are not over yet (you've been warned). Boca Chica is truly unique, even in its smallest nooks. Take, for example, the WC, quite original with its magnificent collection of mirrors, velvet chairs, piano, and even a DJ. Just like that, a brief routine bathroom break becomes a moment of beauty and the place to be after midnight.

If we dared, we’d go so far as to say that we come to Boca Chica for the cocktails and stay for the toilets, but we’ll only say it to you.
