One of these things is not like the other …

Let’s play a little game, Which one does not belong? Round 1: valet, chandeliers, quesadillas. Easy. Round 2: champagne, margarita, cognac. Wrong and wrong (yes, we can read minds). They all belong, at least at the Red O restaurant in Los Angeles, offering a refined taste of Mexico.

We do love the most unusual things, but we couldn’t resist reserving a table here at the swanky eatery of the American celebrity chef with a Mexican cuisine obsession. Let's put it this way: when the Mexican president visited the White House, he was tasked with preparing dinner. (We’ll give you a hint: it wasn’t Chipotle.) This talented chef goes by the name Rick Bayless, and his craze won his restaurant a Michelin star! All it took was putting goat cheese on the tamales, duck in the taquitos, and Lamb in Mole Negro on the menu.

The ambiance of the Red O is lit in red (go figure), with the decor of an elegant tropical restaurant on the shores of St. Barts. If we didn't know what a chic, gourmet Mexican restaurant looked like before, we do now.

Who would've thought that we would be picking away at our ahi tuna tostaditas with a silver spoon or trying to avoid spilling hot chili pepper sauce on the white starch tablecloths? We’re so happy Mr. Bayless did, or else we wouldn’t have had the honor of choosing from such an extensive tequila selection. Shots, anyone? No, we keep it classy and order the filet mignon, and a spicy margarita to maintain the balance, as the chef intended.

After a bite of the shrimp enchiladas and the best Patron of your life, the reasons for Bayless's success are obvious. He's opening 2 other locations in Santa Monica, Newport Beach and … Cancun? Just kidding.
