For BENETEAU, the new notion of luxury should be savoured

What if true luxury was time? Boat manufacturer BENETEAU certainly seems to think so, with its recent launch of the Grand Trawler 62, a yacht designed for long-distance cruises at a relaxed pace with optimum comfort. SoBARNES sets a course for new horizons.

BENETEAU definitely deserves credit for daring. Daring to launch the Grand Trawler 62 as a proponent of “slow living”. Which, you have to admit, is a bold move in the yachting world which usually places the emphasis on performance. This luxury passagemaker is almost 19m long (62ft) and offers an exceptional cruising range of 900 nautical miles, provided you navigate at the laid-back speed of 9 knots (10mph).

Naturally, the onboard space has been designed to ensure that the 8 passengers are at ease on long-distance cruises (*). Mission accomplished:

The result of BENETEAU’s collaboration with Italian studio Nauta Design, the Grand Trawler 62 comes in two versions: three or four double cabins, each with 2m (6.5ft) headroom (meaning you’d have to be particularly tall to hit your head when you stand up). A 2-person crew can provide onboard services, with the option to fit out separate stern quarters.

The design is deliberately uncluttered, with walnut and light oak wood on the walls, floors and furnishings. And interior fittings that would do a multi-star hotel proud.

And because the joys of yachting also include the exterior, the spacious cockpit has a transom that fully opens onto the swim platform, creating a “terrace to the sea” secured by sliding gates.

Although you might not be able to see it, the hull has been specially designed to ensure that this boat made for long-distance adventures is fuel efficient and stable whatever the sailing conditions. But have no fear, for those in a hurry, the Grand Trawler 62 can also be swift as a fox if required, with a top speed of 20 knots (23mph) thanks to the 2 x 730hp engines.

Unanimously praised by the trade press, this ambitious yacht has a price tag of €1,661,280.

(*) Wondering what a 900 nautical mile range represents? Let’s just say you can easily sail from Monaco to the Balearic Islands and back without refuelling. Or to Scotland from Bordeaux, but that would likely be a rare occurrence...
