GPHG, a sublime immersion in the world of watchmaking

The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève 2020 has recently revealed its nominated watches in full pomp and ceremony. Take a look at the video!

Every year, the ritual is the same, the world of luxury watchmaking holds its breath as the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) -- the holy grail for watchmakers -- approaches. #SoBARNES has decided to indulge with an overview of the crème de la crème of the 84 watches nominated for 2020 (*). In addition to the Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon (H. Moser/MB&F, cover photo), discover the Legacy Machine Thunderdome by MB&F, Le Régulateur by Louis Erard/Alain Silberstein, Mademoiselle Privé Bouton Perle by Chanel and the Minute Repeater Resonance by Armin Strom:

Bringing together more than 350 famous names in international watchmaking, the GPHG Academy has cast its first vote via a digital platform: the 84 nominated timepieces, divided into 14 categories, will do battle to claim one of the 18 prizes celebrating the year's top designs, including the prestigious ‘Aiguille d'Or’ Grand Prix (the equivalent of an Oscar for Best Picture or a Palme d’or at Cannes... but for watches!).

What happens next? A jury of 30 members from the Academy will meet in-camera in Geneva under the supervision of a notary to physically examine the nominated watches and cast their final vote in a secret ballot. Then the entire Academy will take part in the final vote on the digital platform. It goes without saying that the results of the ranking reflect the tribute of an entire profession to its most talented designers. The winners will be announced on Thursday 12 November at the 20th GPHG award ceremony. The form the ceremony itself will take will depend on the health regulations in force at that time.

And just for you, we've kept our favourite in the ‘wow factor video’ to the end - the MB&F HM10 Bulldog Ti:
