Cabinetmaker and woodworker are jobs full of emotion: their unique savoir-faire has been passed down through the centuries and practitioners must embody the balance between passion, talent and meticulousness. Thus, each creation by Les Ateliers de la Chapelle is as authentic as it is aesthetically pleasing. The company’s artisans and journeymen help bring past eras back to life. “One has to stay true to each object’s past and place of origin”, explains Dominique Gilbert. To do so, Les Ateliers de la Chapelle rage a daily war against anachronism: “When restoring a historical monument from any given era, our research department carries out a historical analysis before issuing restoration guidelines”, adds Emmanuel de Villiers. For certain projects, cabinetmakers and woodworkers will join forces with master gilders, bronze smelters, tapestry makers and architects. Dominique Gilbert remembers a particularly challenging example: “We once recreated a set of magnificent choir-stalls and tapestries to complement the ancient stalls at Nevers Cathedral, France”. With great emotion, Emmanuel de Villiers recalls: “the recent restoration of the beautiful woodwork at Hotel Grand Contrôle, located at Château de Versailles and commissioned by LOV Hôtel Collection. The woodwork had never been dismantled since its original creation in 1720”. Restoration/conservation work is a complementary and positively crucial activity in all lines of creative art. 70% of the work carried out by Ateliers de la Chapelle consists in new woodwork and cabinetwork inspired from ancient styles; “for clients who simply require French excellence,” adds the President of Les Ateliers. Les Ateliers de la Chapelle enjoys worldwide renown and draws upon a fantastic professional network. “We are currently working on truly bold and unique projects for clients in Asia and the Middle East,” adds Dominique Gilbert. Over the last 50 years, the company’s artistic and logistic savoir-faire has also seduced many an amateur worldwide.
