Audemars Piguet celebrates femininity

Haute Horlogerie is not just for men, as we well know. But hats off to Audemars Piguet for this celebration of women to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. A tribute that puts the women who work at Le Brassus manufacture every day under the spotlight. SoBARNES tips its hat.

Not to break with tradition, this column starts with a 3-minute film recently released by Audemars Piguet. From the Belle Époque to the latest innovations from October 2021, women's watches are deciphered in all their glory:

The 3 new Royal Oak ladies’ watches presented this October come in white, pink or yellow gold shimmer with a Frosted Gold finish. Frosted Gold, you ask? The technique was first used in 2016 for the 40th anniversary of the ladies’ Royal Oak. Reinterpreting an ancient know-how, jewellery designer Carolina Bucci assisted the Audemars Piguet Manufacture’s craftspeople in adapting its horological craft. How? Tiny indentations are created on the gold surface using a diamond-tipped tool, giving an elegant sparkle effect. Such artistry.

The “Rainbow” bezel is composed of 12 varieties of multicoloured gemstones including ruby, tsavorite, emerald, topaz, tanzanite and amethyst as well as coloured sapphires. Each of the 32 baguette-cut gemstones composing the rainbow has been meticulously chosen to create a smooth gradation. The progressing shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple also bring out the octagonal geometry of the bezel. Perfectly aligned, the gemstones reflect light to create a unique optical experience akin to that of a rainbow. Hence the name.

As you might have guessed, we’re big fans.
