Morgan, a stylish end to 3 Wheeler production

Half-car, half-motorbike, the 3 Wheeler is exiting the stage after a booming 10-year career. And Morgan is celebrating this end of an era in style with a limited series, unveiled by SoBARNES.

With over 2,500 examples produced since 2001, the 3 Wheeler is a true success in light of Morgan’s small scale production. A design masterpiece albeit not usable every day, this traditional three-wheeler, driven by a large engine at the front, is instantly recognisable... But as its air-cooled twin engine is unfortunately no longer able to pass approval standards, Morgan will be stopping its production in 2021. As a grand finale, the English firm is treating us to a 33-example limited edition, named P101 (after the original project’s code name).

It may have two seats, but the space in the 3 Wheeler is so confined that it can only really be enjoyed solo, one elbow outside and knees apart. To emphasise its egotistic nature, Morgan has given the P101 a translucent resin tonneau cover for the passenger seat. Another distinctive element of this limited series is its elegant disc wheels painted black to match the body. And its low-slung additional spot lamps positioned in front of the suspension, level with the road. And naturally, endless aesthetic details from the end to end. The in-house designers clearly went all out!

Available solely in black or white with a choice of four art packs, the 33 P101 will be on sale for £45,000 (around €50,000) excluding tax. But Morgan assures us that the ‘standard’ models (if indeed this epithet is appropriate!) remain available on request until the end of 2021. And because you’ve been diligent and watched the video above to the end, you will have noticed that it finishes with a promise: “The Morgan 3 Wheeler will return”. And what if its electric version, the EV2, which Morgan presented at several car shows in 2015, were to become reality?
