When the most quintessentially French tea house sets foot in Manhattan, it’s good news (especially in these troubled times). When its address is 2 blocks from the BARNES New York offices, it’s a revelation!
We’re at 1050 Sixth Avenue, right in the heart of Manhattan. But there’s a distinctly French aroma in the air. Parisian, even. Angelina’s legendary hot chocolate. And its equally celebrated Mont Blanc dessert. Austrian confectioner Anton Rumpelmayer founded Angelina in 1903, named in honour of his daughter-in-law. Proust, Coco Chanel and the greatest couturiers all contributed to the prestigious reputation of the tea house on Rue de Rivoli. Today, Angelina has become a globally renowned luxury brand and has set up shop in the Bryant Park business district, just 5 minutes from the BARNES New York offices. It goes without saying that the team managed by Yann Rousseau and Christophe Bourreau already has their favourite table!
In this 3,982 sq ft setting decorated with a Parisian touch, New Yorkers can at least savour the home-made pastries made freshly each day. Just like in the original tea house, they can also buy from a range of fine delicatessen products directly in store or via the website, which delivers to the whole country. With this first opening across the Atlantic, Angelina intends to convert Americans to French pastry. Given the success of the Instagram posts on @AngelinaparisUSA and #AngelinaparisNYC, it looks like mission accomplished!
According to SoBARNESpedia, the best way to get from the BARNES New York offices to the Angelina tearoom (in 5 minutes on foot) is to walk along the 10 acres of Bryant Park. A haven of greenery nicknamed ‘Petit Luxembourg’ by the French for its chairs, tables and carousel reminiscent of the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris.
