Seasonal rentals: St. Barts at the centre of the world

It’s a well-known secret that Saint-Barthélemy is a thing of wonder. With its mild climate year-round, its idyllic beaches, its hillsides overlooking the ocean and its transparent waters, the island is renowned the world over for its hotels and gastronomy. In other words, 24 square kilometres (9.7 sq mi) of French art de vivre and sun-drenched Caribbean living... The island’s strict handling of the COVID-19 epidemic has also prevented the crisis from making a dent in its popularity, particularly among an American clientèle. Hence its ranking among the TOP 5 oceanfront destinations in the BARNES Global Property Handbook 2021.

Still not convinced? With the summer holidays fast approaching, check out this selection of dream villas (the least we can say!) put together by Catherine Ventura, head of seasonal rentals at the St. Barts BARNES office.

Starting with the villa Les Roches, nestled in a tropical garden overlooking Flamands Bay. Our favourite feature of this hillside property, set in complete peace and quiet on the private La Réserve estate, has to be its 5 bedrooms, each with a private terrace and a view to die for over the ocean and its islands.

The hustle and bustle of Gustavia is just 5 minutes away, as are the Saint-Jean and Flamands beaches, but it’ll be hard to tear yourselves away from this Eden and its immense infinity pool. And as every detail counts: you can even set up a home office as the villa is equipped with a fibre optic connection. The ultimate luxury, to rent from €37,200 per week.

Another top pick is Le Manoir de Lorient, just a minute from the beach of the same name.

In fact we’d class it more as an estate in itself than a villa, with its 7 bedrooms spread across several bungalows, its three-quarters of an acre of tropical garden, its mirror pool and its pool house. You have to admit that the view over the lush hillside in the background makes you instantly feel like you’re on holiday. Le Manoir is available to rent from €33,000 per week.

Go a few hundred yards to the west and you’ll find a whole new décor (that’s the magic of St. Barts) with villa Ixfalia. Here on the heights of Saint-Jean you get a panoramic view over the bay and the famous Eden Rock beach.

Composed of 4 bedrooms facing out to sea, this villa boasts a contemporary design that we simply love, with its woodwork and high ceilings. The kitchen and lounge open out onto the large terrace and pool, while the crème de la crème has to be the wooden table that can sit 10. We can just imagine spending long hours out on the deck... From €20,000 per week.

And since we’ve already started the climb, let’s stick around to discover villa Palm Springs and its angular architecture.

The lounge with its white leather sofas, opening onto the vast terrace and pool will leave you simply speechless. And the sunset provides a daily spectacle on the (very) large screen that is the horizon! It goes without saying that the 5 bedrooms offer a genuine haven of comfort and tranquillity. A tempting proposition, to rent from €16,500 per week.

Last but not least, the villa Jade, one of the most famous on the island for the simple reason that it once belonged to Johnny Hallyday.

An object of worship for fans of the French rockstar who died in 2017, and without doubt an entirely different experience of glamour in St. Barts. Towering over Marigot Bay, it exudes a unique atmosphere from within its kitchen and lounge which open onto the pool and teak terrace. The 7 bedrooms, including two for children, are spread across various bungalows. Villa Jade also comes with a home cinema, a gym and a sauna. Like you, I’m sure, we sure wish the walls could talk... The villa is available for rent with BARNES Saint-Barth from €16,500 per week.
