Léa Seydoux and Emma Stone: two versions of a Louis Vuitton icon

Two stars for one bag, the Louis Vuitton Capucines. It's up to you to choose which side you're on.

It's probably not a scheduling coincidence. In March 2021, the Capucines handbag appeared lying next to Bond girl Léa Seydoux on top of white sheets, toeing the line between angelic and sensual. Two months later, it appeared on Emma Stone's arm in the first clips from the film Cruella, set for release in French cinemas on 23 June.

Two radically different interpretations of the same bag, which has been a best-seller since its launch in 2013.

Through the lens of photographer Steven Meisel, Louis Vuitton ambassador Léa Seydoux embodies the intimate relationship between a woman and her handbag. In this case, the Capucines MM in black taurillon leather. Named in homage to Rue Neuve-des-Capucines, where Louis Vuitton's first Parisian store opened in 1854, this now-classic piece expertly combines the Maison's historic values - creativity, quest for the exceptional, and incredible craftsmanship. It takes more than a hundred steps to make each bag. Season after season, new designs that bare-facedly flirt with audacity demonstrate this expertise, ever-present in the craft.

Speaking of audacity, we were unreservedly elated to hear that Emma Stone would star as Cruella in the film of the same name. This Disney blockbuster dives into the young years of the show-stealing villain from 101 Dalmatians, set against a swinging London backdrop that's equal parts elegant and eccentric. Two-time Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan felt that a Capucines bag would bring the Parisian touch that Cruella's look needed.

Just as you can’t be for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones at once, you can’t be both angel and devil at the same time. Or can you...
