Longchamp moves in to the net

Is the net bag set to oust the wicker basket as the chic urban shopping accessory? That’s what Longchamp has in mind in any case with Le Pliage Filet, the result of a surprisingly complex savoir-faire.

Far be it from us to play the role of fashionistas, but Le Pliage Filet seems to have been met with a unanimous “YES!” and certainly has what it takes to become the 2021 It bag. Take Le Pliage by Longchamp on the one hand, a bag designed in the brand’s Loire Valley workshops, and the Filt net shopping bag, a knitted cotton bag manufactured in Normandy since 1860. Two ‘made in France’ leatherwork and textile icons are joining forces in a no-frills collaboration to create an authentic yet offbeat bag that resonates throughout the generations. The result of an illicit courtship between the two family-owned companies, Longchamp and Filt, it’s certainly a heart-stopper: available in six net colours, Le Pliage Filet adopts the large mesh of the string shopping bag and is adorned with the Russian leather handles and flap of the Le Pliage bag.

It's rare for a collaboration to bring together two bags”, says Sophie Delafontaine, Artistic Director of Maison Longchamp. “But I like the idea of a union between two icons that combine to exalt an allure, personality and a little humour”. Come to that, so do we!

Like all the bags in the Le Pliage range, the flap can be customised with your initials. And that’s not the only good news: this revisited stylish bag features the original handles of the shopping net, allowing it to be carried on the shoulder, and can be hidden inside the bag when not being used. Are you thinking beach bag?

Le Pliage Filet is available in one size only to order online (*) and in Longchamp stores. And we’re also a fan of its price, at just €75. Which just goes to show that when it comes to luxury, it’s not always about the zeros…
