Mauritius reopens its borders Friday 1 October

It’s been a year and a half since the Mauritian authorities took the decision to close their borders, first totally then partially. Anyone wishing to enter the country was required to quarantine for fourteen days at a hotel. This health protocol, which enabled the Mauritian authorities to control the impact of the epidemic, will come to an end on Friday 1 October 2021. What better reason to get back in touch with the BARNES Mauritius team!

The principled policy put in place by the Mauritian government has allowed the country to reopen its borders to vaccinated people in complete safety. With the arrival of the austral summer, it’s the ideal occasion to spend some time on the island! To discover Mauritian life, its peaceful multiculturalism, its idyllic beaches, its golf courses and its multiple nautical activities. Not to mention its leading private clinics and international schools.

Many opportunities are now available in Mauritius, as explained by the BARNES Mauritius team, led by Outi de Falbaire. The new regulations in force concerning foreign investors make it much easier for people wishing to settle in Mauritius to acquire a property and obtain a Permanent Resident Permit:

  • The Permanent Resident Permit will now be granted for any purchase of property with a minimum value of $375,000, under all the accessible to non-Mauritian schemes
  • Possibility to change visa category without leaving the Mauritian territory
  • The Permanent Resident Permit is extended from 10 to 20 years
  • The Occupation Permit is extended from 3 to 10 years

And still with a soft tax regime based on:

  • Individual and corporate taxes capped at 15%
  • No taxes on dividends, interest and capital gains, or property
  • No inheritance tax from direct family succession
  • Free repatriation of profits

And since your arrival has been awaited for many months, BARNES Mauritius is committed to accompanying you from A to Z in your life plan in Mauritius. Whether for a temporary expatriation, a (well-deserved, if we may say so) rest for a few months, or a longer-term project, the consultants can offer you properties and support that perfectly match your expectations: a villa on a golf course, a house close to schools and the beach, a long-term waterfront rental, or a seasonal rental at a reduced price in a heavenly setting.

With five agencies covering the country’s main regions, BARNES Mauritius has the island’s most complete portfolio of high-end properties. “The teams have never stopped working during this period of crisis in order to provide a fitting welcome for its clients as soon as the borders reopen”, says Outi de Falbaire. And that moment has come!

To give you a taste of what awaits, we’ll leave you to admire this villa set on of the Mauritius’ most prestigious golf estates. Facing the sea. The dream.
