Tod’s, the magical number seven

The Tod’s Men Fall-Winter 2021/2022 collection has been unveiled in a film that meaningfully resonates with current events. Young actor Lorenzo Zurzolo wanders alone with himself, away from everyone and everything, for seven days and nights.

An interplay of shadow and light in the haunting setting of the Villa Ronchi in Vigevano, between Milan and Pavia. Designed in 1936 by the architect Giuseppe De Finetti for the Crespi family who owned the Corriere de la Serra newspaper, this manor is considered a monument to 20th century Italian style. In the film, Lorenzo Zurzolo, aged 20, prepares for a role, using the time to look inward. Alone. In other words, how to exalt social distancing by pushing it to its pinnacle. The collection is showcased through this visual story entitled #sevenT. Seven like the days of the week. T for Tod's. But also for time.

The portrait in the making of an Italian gentleman/farmer takes shape thanks to the pillars of the wardrobe: the trench coat, the hunting jacket and the field jacket, riding pants, rubber boots and ribbed sweaters. Tod’s Creative Director, Walter Chiapponi, furthers his reinterpretation of the classics in contact with the nature surrounding the manor. The warm, earthy tones used on tweeds, wools and cottons create a natural camouflage with the landscape, while the accessories play on rustic Norwegian stitching, ankle boots with Texan heels and desert boots.

The famous rubber pebbled soles of the gommini that built the reputation of Tod’s are, of course, included in the collection, in a winter version on boots and sneakers. And for the SoBARNESpedia titbit, one of the great figures of 20th century elegance, Lady Di, is said to have claimed in 1996 that gommini are a talisman against vulgarity. How about that for a definition of style?
