Springer & Fersen: the ocean on your wrist

Young watchmaking house Springer & Fersen has unveiled the film of its first creation, the Rangiroa World Diver – exclusively for SoBARNES. A diver's watch with a fine pedigree, both innovative in design and classic in its attributes.

If the passion for watchmaking can move mountains, it can also bring the oceans closer together. Let's then salute the tenacity of Parisian perfumer Axel Grivory, who has succeeded against both pandemic and high water in creating and launching the brand of his dreams, Springer & Fersen. Nothing in his past destined him to embark on such an adventure. Nothing that is, except the desire of this diving enthusiast to see the ideal watch materialise before his eyes. He named it Rangiroa, after a Tahitian atoll famous for its clear waters and marine life.

To design the Rangiroa World Diver, Grivory says he was inspired by the silhouette of manta rays, one of which is engraved in brushed steel on the back of its 44 mm-case. This is an imposing, if not muscular watch, water-resistant to 300 metres, perfectly legible even at depths and equipped with an excellent Swiss automatic movement. Full marks for the ultra-simple display of a second time zone, adjustable with a screw-down crown at 10 o'clock.

Intimidating when presented in its case, the Rangiroa World Diver fits perfectly on the wrist, whether mounted on a leather or silicone strap. With a SoBARNES favourite detail: the quick-release fastener system that allows you to change straps in just a few seconds, without the need for tools.

This newcomer to an already crowded watch world stands out for its competitive price given its overall quality (€2,600) and its bold colours, very classic black accompanied by white, deep-sea blue and lime green.

We wish fair winds to this fledgling watchmaking company, which has already been spotted by leading retailers across the Atlantic. A little bird tells us that its next model will leave Polynesia to take us to a Central American country famous for its canal (but that’s all we can say for now...).

By the way, why name the brand Springer & Fersen? As a tribute by Axel Grivory to two famous Axels: Axel von Fersen, Swedish diplomat and great friend of Marie-Antoinette, and Axel Springer, founder of the press group that bears his name. Would you have guessed?
