Rolls-Royce Ghost, the epitome of luxury

Rolls-Royce takes the motor car to a new level of sophistication with the new Ghost. In its purest form.

How to consistently up performance? It took the engineers and designers at Rolls-Royce a number of years to create the ‘little’ sister (or more like ‘big’ sister!) to the Ghost, launched in 2009. “The only components that we carried over from the first Goodwood Ghost were the Spirit of Ecstasy and umbrellas”, says Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the brand’s CEO.

It would be in bad taste to cloud the first official photos unveiled by Rolls-Royce with mundane technical details. So instead we’ll get straight to the point: the new Ghost boasts all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering and a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering 571PS and 850nm, is slightly longer at 5.47m and 1.80m wide, and its 8-speed automatic gearbox comes complete with satellite-aided transmission (!).

What about on-board comfort, you ask? Rolls-Royce has fine-tuned the suspension to the max. for a ‘magic carpet’ ride equipped with cameras to anticipate any bumps, as well as the power-assisted doors to present an engineering marvel.

While the interior features all the traits of an English lounge paired with a concert hall, the exterior reflects a ‘Post Opulent’ design philosophy, rejecting superficial expressions of wealth. To claim that its passengers go unnoticed would be an exaggeration, but it has to be said that the Ghost exudes a certain sober quality in its discreet elegance.

A tour de force interpreted by Henry Clocke, the designer behind this stroke of genius:

And the SoBARNES favourite feature: 20 LEDs hidden beneath the radiator grille, which discreetly illuminate the grille slats. The devil is in the detail!
