Riva, an eternal elegance

How not to succumb to temptation when faced with the latest addition to the Riva shipyards, the 88' Folgore? This embodiment of design and luxury marks a new milestone in the Italian brand’s history. SoBARNES takes you aboard.

Riva and its legendary varnished mahogany boats, which brought the glory days of la dolce vita to life on the Italian lakes and the French Riviera during the 60s and 70s, need no introduction. After having changed hands and destiny several times, the brand has found its place in today’s yachting world, reinventing its DNA without (too) much nostalgia for earlier styles. This is evidenced by its latest baby, the Riva 88' Folgore (“thunderbolt”, in Italian), which subtly plays on the harmony between the past, present and future.

Combining carbon fibre, mahogany inlay and high-tech equipment, it is characterised by a profile whose elegance rests on two simple lines running all the way along its 27 metres. A sobriety barely offset by the curvature of the windscreen, which subtly evokes the Riva of yesteryear.

While its superstructure is equipped with an original roof that opens both forward and aft, the 88' Folgore also innovates on the stern side, with a door that can be transformed into a beach club or a launching platform for the tender. Inside, needless to say that noble materials reign supreme, starting with mahogany and marble. The master cabin and the three guest suites, which can of course be custom-decorated, have remarkable windowed surfaces punctuated by old-fashioned portholes. This new type of Riva is, of course, equipped with all the best when it comes to the latest amenities for leisure and connectivity, thus ensuring equal enjoyment whether relaxing or crossing the Mediterranean.

Many owners are looking for a comfort zone at the moment - their own private island where they and their family will feel protected”, explains yacht designer Sergio Beretta. “The Folgore offers both the right size and the right space to fulfil this role. And it ticks all the boxes to become a new Riva icon”.

Who are we to doubt it?
