In easy driving distance of Florence, the COMO Castello Del Nero hotel provides a gateway to the Tuscan dream, set between vineyards and olive groves.
Have you heard of the COMO Hotels & Resorts? The chain launched in 1998 by Singapore business woman Christina Ong has 15 oh-so exclusive gems to its name. From London to Miami Beach, Perth to Bangkok, and from the Maldives to the valleys of Bhutan, these resorts all have one thing in common: staying there is an experience in itself, one combining wellness, gastronomy and design. The COMO Castello Del Nero in Tuscany is no exception. This 740-acre estate comprises 50 rooms and suites, many of which afford views over the surrounding countryside and the Chianti vines. The historic terracotta floors of the 12th century château, the walls decorated with frescoes and the vaulted ceilings are all still intact, embellished by a light-toned contemporary aesthetic created by Milan-born interior designer Paola Navone. COMO has ensured that the modifications made to the château were approved by the Italian Fine Art Commission in order to preserve the property’s authenticity. And the result is clear in the perfectly preserved historic details and period features.
Truffle hunting and cooking classes
The hotel has three high calibre restaurants including La Torre (Michelin-starred) which serves elegant Italian cuisine made from the finest Tuscan products. The estate’s vineyard, olive groves, vegetable garden and beehives are constantly buzzing and supply the kitchens with fresh produce of exceptional quality... The (lucky) guests can also throw themselves into the local culture with truffle hunting, wine and olive oil tastings, and cooking classes.
A word of advice: there’s no better base than the Castello Del Nero to explore the delights of Tuscany. Florence, Sienna and Pisa all await. And for that extra Italian touch, why not get behind the wheel of one of the hotel’s vintage Fiat 500s or hop on one of its Vespas! A 100% #SoBARNES esperienza!
