“Lunch at our usual spot, again?”

But which one? You have the choice of 4. After a quick draw from a hat, we’ll meet up at Bichat, Grand Bréguet, Myrha or maybe even Boétie.

Eating well, healthy and organic for next to nothing was a bet won by the cofounder of these canteens, who came up with the great idea to do the exact opposite of fast food chains. With raw organic ingredients (of course) from local producers, everything is prepared and cooked fresh and on the spot. For about 8 to 9 euros, you can enjoy a delicious bowl filled with brown Thai rice with cooked and/or raw veggies and your choice of vegan protein or not. The cake du jour is made with seasonal fruits, and the self-serve drinks are homemade. And if you current regime is gluten-free, it's not a problem. Here, we eat to do some good, that’s the principle.

As you know, a good ambiance is our weakness. Here the menu is written in a chalk calligraphy on boards, crates of vegetables are shoved under the counters, glass jars hold spices and grains, and above all, a joyous, relaxed atmosphere reigns - you can see it on the staff’s constant smiles. Here a relaxed wind of freedom blows.

This fantastic idea came from French humanist and actor Augustin Legrand (Fun Fact: He was also a spokesperson of the homeless in France.) To him we say bravo, because not only do these eateries give our wallets a break (you don’t have to eat in a 5-star place every day), they also take good care of our health. Besides, you know at SoBarnes, we can’t keep a good deal to ourselves.

To find their addresses, it’s very easy: street name = name of the canteen.
Before we forget, they are our canteens of choice day and night.
