A sight for sore eyes

This is a place to see and be seen. In Spain, glamour and style come enclosed in a luxurious glass case in the heart of Madrid. So follow the crowd of beautiful people and head to the ground level of the five-star Hotel Urban, where you’ll find the trendy Glass Bar. It sparkles just for you.

Everyone in the Spanish capital knows that the best evenings begin at this lounge. It seems as though the entire beau monde meets at this oyster bar not only for an aperitif and some delightful bites, but to be surrounded by beauty on par with their own. The decor is modern and luxe, based on a silvery transparent palette that honors the house material (glass, you’re following, right?). The lighting is superb, as if each guest was a model arriving on set for a photoshoot (we hope you’re ready for your close up); and the furniture is simply ethereal, with the assistance of the fabulous “Ghost” chairs by a SB favorite, designer Philippe Starck, and shimmering suspended objects, like the decadent crystal chandelier imported from Morocco. And voila! The scene is set, perfected with everything in its place. Now you understand that this site is truly one to see.

You think: What could possibly go wrong? The service is impeccable; and besides, beautiful people (like you) only attract beautiful problems. Your only hardship at the Glass Bar will be choosing from the extensive cocktail menu. If you’re lucky, our bartender of choice (he’s Italian, from Napoli to be exact) will be behind the bar. He’ll guide you through the gin selection to ensure that your gin and tonic is personalized to your taste palette; he’ll do the same with a list of champagne - we advise a bottle, you’ll want to take your time is an ambiance of such beauty; or you can ask him to prepare a one-of-a-kind martini.

We haven’t forgotten about our gourmands. The complimentary snacks - chips or popcorn - is tasty, but to try one of their Japanese and seafood-inspired tapas is to indulge in the complete experience of this little corner of luxury. Tuna tartare or a scrumptious soft-shell crab salad anyone?

There’s nothing left to say because nothing is out of place, but we’ll leave you with this SB tip: Another point of rendezvous in the hotel is on the top floor, it’s one of Madrid’s best rooftop terraces, La Terraza del Urban. Voila (again)! The sight, a view of the city worthy of the twinkling stars above. And (again) they’re sparkling just for you.
