Seasonal rentals - Inside Megève’s cosiest chalets

Elegant and discreet, Megève takes first prize when it comes to Savoyard living. Designer boutiques, Michelin-starred restaurants and luxury hotels abound here, but the soul of the resort lies in its old village and its wooden chalets, considered the archetype of mountain charm.

A charm that has been brought to the forefront in the wake of 2020, as many snow sports fans have discovered that Megève is equally attractive in the summer months. The result is that seasonal rentals have gained a second season. It may mean swapping ski gloves for golf gloves, but the setting is just as authentic and enticing. Anna Baraf, Director of the BARNES Megève office, has put together a selection of top picks just for you this summer. Or even earlier if you fancy a home office set-up at high altitudes!

Honour where honour is due, let’s start with the Chalet Orcia, built in Mont d’Arbois in the style of the traditional Megève-ian farms. In addition to its 6 en-suites with room to accommodate 15 people in the utmost comfort, it has a professional spa complete with jacuzzi, counter-current swimming pool and high pressure massage jets, swan-neck ice-water bath, sensory shower, sauna, steam room, tea room and home cinema. What more could you ask for?

Orcia is available from €24,000 per week and offers almost everything you can think of for a dream vacation, including self-contained staff accommodation.

Also in Mont d’Arbois is Indigo, considered one of the resort’s most stunning chalets. Set on Baron Rothschild’s lands, it combines the best of Savoyard tradition (the photos speak for themselves!) and exceptional comfort and leisure facilities, starting with the stone indoor pool:

Our favourite feature has to be the breathtaking living room bringing together a dining room and relaxation spaces and opening out onto a balcony overlooking the ski slopes. Not that we’d scoff at the home cinema that can be transformed into a private night club if the fancy so takes you. So very SoBARNES. To rent this chalet that can accommodate up to 12 guests in its 5 bedrooms (including a children’s bedroom), you’re looking at a starting price of €51,700 per week.

Time for a change of style with the Diva chalet, which has all the makings of an interior design manifesto adapted to mountain demands:

Just a short distance from the centre of Megève and the Chamois gondola lift, its 8 suites, its swimming pool with movable floor, its spa, tea room and piano bar all exude a unique atmosphere. Which makes the departure all the more difficult once you’ve settled in. From €20,600 per week, with a 16-person capacity!

Next stop the Le Jaillet ski slopes and Meg’Infinity, which boasts an outdoor pool for the summer season in addition to its indoor pool with retractable floor.

And those views from the terrace! The Mont d'Arbois and the Mont Joly stretched out before you... a true sight to see. Meg’Infinity can accommodate 11 people in its 5 bedrooms, from €15,500 per week.

Last but not least on our Megève trail is the Chalet Deer, which has one undeniable advantage: its location at the heart of the pedestrianised streets of the old village.

It too comes with an indoor pool and a sauna worthy of a home design magazine, as well as a heavenly jacuzzi on the terrace (just imagine the delight of sliding into the water after a day of skiing or on a bright summer morning, coffee in hand...). The Chalet Deer is one of the cosiest we’ve come across, and we can't get enough of its floor dedicated to the living and reception rooms, including two lounges, a dining room and a large equipped kitchen. A stay in the 7 bedrooms of this symphony of wood, glass, stone and fur comes at the price of €14,500 per week.
